6 Tips To Choose The Best Location For Your Water Tank

Knowing where to place a water tank is key to its performance and durability, therefore, there are some aspects that you need to consider before choosing the best location.

Below you will find information on how to choose the best spot to install your new water tank:

  1. Check all the areas around your house or business and define where most of the water will be used. The water tank should be located near to those areas
  2. Consider having enough space to access the tank to perform maintenance tasks.
  3. Check local laws and regulations for some building regulations may limit where you locate the water tank.
  4. To reduce installation costs, make sure your tank is placed near (or as near as possible) to the closest down pipe and storm water line.
  5. Take your neighbors into consideration if you want to install a pump as noise might bother more than one. Getting a pump cover is usually a good idea, it will help with the noise and will increase its lifespan.
  6. Make sure the new location does not place stress on retaining or house walls, as well as pipe work or anything else that might suffer from damage due to pressure.

  1. I appreciate what you said about placing a water tank close to a storm water line. This is something that I would have forgotten to do, but I will be sure to remember it now. Do you have any examples of a place that would put stress on walls? This is something that I definitely want to avoid, thank you for all the helpful information!

  2. I appreciate your suggestion to get a pump cover if you install a pump from your water tanks. I wonder what the cost of good pump cover for a water tank pump is just so I can see if it increases the lifespan of the hose enough to warrant the cost. Thanks for the tips! I’ll have to keep them in mind the next time I place new water tanks on my property.

  3. I agree that when you are installing a water tank you need to find an area where you have enough space to use it. It would seem that you would want to find somewhere that is large enough to make it easy to access if you need it. I’m installing a water tank in my home so I’ll have to consider a spot that you can reach easily.
